Blog Writing Assignment 1

Blog Assignment 1
Due: Wednesday, September 9 at 8 a.m.

Now that you have set up a blog through www.blogger.com, it’s time for you to write your first post. This is a two-part assignment due on or before our next class meeting. Please write all of your blog posts in a Word document and keep a copy saved on your computer, just in case.

Part 1: You will need to briefly introduce yourself to your blog readers (that is, the rest of the class). This post should be a single paragraph of at least 100 words. You may write more if you wish. You may wish to write about any of the following information: your name, age, hometown, career goals, hobbies, a description of your family, etc.

Part 2: Read “Mother Tongue” by Amy Tan, which you will find posted on our class blog. After reading this essay, please write a 200-word response to the following questions: How does your language and that of your peers differ from that of a different generation of speakers—your parents, or your children? How does the language you use in formal situations differ from the language you use in less formal ones? In this post, describe the different sorts of “languages” you encounter in your life.

When writing these posts, be sure to have a statement of purpose (or thesis) and use topic sentences and specific examples to illustrate your points. Be sure to re-read your writing before you post it to check for errors such as grammar, punctuation or spelling. And don’t forget to give a title to your post!

You may combine Part 1 and Part 2 in a single blog entry or write two separate entries on two different days.
