Antibiotic: A type of medicine made from tiny microorganisms that are effective in fighting off other diseases causing microorganisms.
Epidemic: A disease that spreads quickly among many people.
Velvet: A soft, thick cloth made from cotton, silk, etc.
Excerpt: An excerpt is a short piece of writing or music which is taken from a larger piece.
Rumble: To make a low, powerful, rolling nose. Slang: a riot or big fight.
Humble: Meek, weak, modest or unassuming, or poor or unimportant.
Delegation: 1. A group of official representatives 2. The act of giving power or authority to someone to act in one’s place.
Saturate: To soak with a liquid until no more can be absorbed.
Sarcasm: An attitude or comments that hurt someone’s feeling, often by saying the opposite of what is meant.
Lectern: an object with a sloping surface that you put an open book or notes on while you are speaking to people in public.
Graze: To feed on grass 2. To touch lightly against something and injure the skin 3. To touch something lightly as it passes.
Dispel: To cause to go away, to dissipate.

Melting pot: Figuratively speaking, a place where large numbers of immigrants from many different countries live together.
Blur: To cause something to become unclear or indistinct.
Gap: 1. An empty space between two things 2. An unfulfilled period of time
